Being lost with a compass

Is it possible to get lost if I have a compass? What if I have a compass but my compass is wrong? Is it possible for a compass to be wrong or do they always point North allowing you to always find your way? Is it possible to just not be looking at the compass correctly or maybe it’s just that we have the wrong compass entirely?

Matthew 15:14 “Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.” I think we need to be careful of what compass we pick to guide us. Fortunately for us, God sent us a compass.

Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

AWESOME! I don’t have to be lost anymore! What great news is it that I have the best compass in the world right at my disposal to ask for guidance, look for advice, or to listen when I am scared.

The biggest problem that I have is when I stop looking to my compass and thinking that I can find my way without it. It wasn’t until I was truly lost that I realized how much I needed my compass. Ok, enough with the compass references! I needed a Savior. What clarity He gave me to see my path! How did I ever make it anywhere without Him?!?! The truth is, I got lost. I’m not sure if I actually got lost or already was lost.

My oldest son turned us on to a television show called “Total Blackout” where people go into a room and try to guess what certain objects are. The trick is that the room they are in is so dark that they can’t see their hand in front of their face. It sure does seem easy to play the game when I am sitting in my bright living room and I can see those objects clear as day.

I find it very similar watching people that are walking around without Jesus. This weekend, my friend Luke preached about lost people and how we can reach them. It was a great message and really spoke to me. How can I possibly get the best compass in the world into the hands of lost people that don’t realize that they are lost?

The truth is the best way that I can do that is to be honest and transparent and show them that I can’t get anywhere without my compass and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Without Jesus as my guide and compass, I truly am lost.
