I'm really glad Aramis Ramirez is hitting .288, really I am. But where's the beef, Rammy?
It is May 17th, and Aramis has one home run so far this season. What the snap! His slugging is now well below .400; between 2004 and 2009, Aramis slugged .551. I repeat: what the snap!
Over at RotoGraphs, Michael Barr shows that Ramirez is a perennial slow starter, and there's still a great chance he'll heat up come June. But his career slugging in April is .460, and in May it's .446. So how big a bounce can you really expect? Even last year, when he was apparently suffering from immense thumb pain, Ramirez managed four jacks -- despite just 27 hits in 167 at-bats in the first two months of the season.
I know this is something I've bitched about before, but I'm bitching again because nothing has changed. Once again, here is a link to Aramis' ISO by year. Hooray!
To conclude: ZiPS thinks Aramis will hit 13 more homers this season. Womp womp.
