Last night, Go-2-daddy and I attended our first Bulls game together. Despite the fact that we are both Chicago natives, we'd never been to a Bulls game. We had a great time mainly because of the atmosphere. The home team spirit and engagement of the fans is amazing, but what topped it off were the consumer activities and entertaining performances that kept the night going during time outs and half time. My favorite performance of the night was by the Bulls Kids.... I didn't even know we had a group of kid dancers for the team. That's awesome, that's the kind of extracurricular activity I hope to have my child involved in some day. I've always been a fan of the Jesse White Tumblers also and they performed as well. Definitely a good night for us.
I definitely recommend taking your family to a Bulls, Blackhawks, Sox, Cubs... whatever your favorite team or sport is, make sure you take your kids. They will definitely have a great time. I'm a parent who aims to make sure my child does many things I may have wanted to do as a child. I went to a Baltimore Orioles game during a field trip in first grade once (when I lived in Pennsylvania.) Other than that, I don't recall going to any sporting events as a child. I took my younger siblings and cousins to a Chicago Sky game once. That was a fun experience as well. Next Bulls game I go to, I will be sure to bring Go-2-baby along. Or for that, I may wait until she's at least 3.
Kids need to experience concerts, the circus, games, picnics, camping and the whole nine. I want my child to be a frequent flyer before she reaches school age. I'm planning to go to Disney World, Sesame Place, The World of Coke, Hershey Park and anywhere else in the world that has child friendly attractions. I didn't really start traveling until I was an adult, and I still haven't seen half of the country let or lone somewhere international.
Next week we are taking a trip to Wisconsin Dells to celebrate Go-2-sister's birthday. I'm excited because this will be the first family trip we've taken since Go-2-Baby was born. She will get a chance to play in the baby pool and hopefully ride one of the tot-friendly rides at the indoor theme park. My plan is to take at least one family trip each year in addition to taking advantage of what our beautiful city has to offer.
Magazines like Time Out Chicago Kids and Chicago Parent give you a great idea on daily, weekly and monthly things to do with kids in Chicago. There's also KidGrade that provides reviews and rating for all things kid related in Chicago. I am a woman of many resources, sadly I'm a woman of less time than I have resources. Being a PR/Marketing professional means that I have a lot of knowledge about what goes on in this city, but not enough time to take advantage of it.
This is going to change... it has to. I won't have it any other way.
