I hope you all survived the 4th of July holiday without melting in this heat or accidentally blowing off any limbs. With the summer sun and fun in full swing, here is your News N' Nibbles for this week.
Daily's Drinks: These clever frozen drink pouches are making an appearance at backyard barbecues and summer parties all over the country. I think of them as adult Capri-Sun (I'm sure you can stick a straw in them too if you really wanted.) Daily's frozen drink pouches are ready-made, single serve cocktails. Blender drinks without the blender...or the gluten. All of Daily's drink pouch cocktails are gluten free and come in a variety of flavors, including margarita, piña colada, and strawberry daiquiri. Simply stick Daily's frozen drink pouches in the freezer or an iced cooler, then open and squeeze into a cocktail glass. It doesn't get much easier than that.
Bocce & Bowling Celiac Fundraiser: Go get a retro bowling shirt and come out to Pinstripes in Northbrook for a gluten free dinner, gluten free desserts, and a cash bar plus raffle. Pinstripes is a great gluten free restaurant option for Chicagoans, offering gluten free menus at both their Northbrook and South Barrington locations. On Thursday, July 19th from 6-9pm, Pinstripes will be hosting a Bocce & Bowling fundraiser to help fund the cure for celiac disease. Proceeds from the benefit will support the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center. Raffle items include fitness memberships, concert tickets, picnic baskets, and gift cards. For more information, contact Pinstripes.
Summer Beauty from Neutrogena: I wrote an earlier Gladly Gluten Free News N' Nibbles post, previewing some of the hot summer trends for hair and makeup. Have you longer-haired readers been wearing your side braids? Hot sun and swimming pools can certainly take their toll on hair and skin, so gluten free sunscreen, conditioning shampoos, and gluten free cleansers that won't clog pores are a must. I have mentioned Neutrogena products in the past, but the following are part of my go-to summer regimen. I have contacted Neutrogena and confirmed all of the following are gluten free:
- Oil Free Moisture (SPF 15)
- Deep Clean Gentle Scrub
- Alcohol Free Toner
- Clean Pore Cleanser and Mask
- Age Shield Face (SPF 110) - This is a new product for Neutrogena and a must for helping to prevent sun damage on the face. It has been working really well for me, even when swimming or doing other outdoor sports.
Nibbles: Berghoff Root Beer Floats
Mmmm... Root Beer. Taking a sip of root beer instantly transports me back to childhood, spending many a summer night on the porch, eating root beer floats. I decided to treat my kids to the same experience the other night so picked up a 6-pack of Berghoff gluten free root beer and some ice cream. I used a few scoops of vanilla ice cream for the kids and So Delicious No Sugar Added Vanilla Bean Coconut Milk Ice Cream for my float. It tasted just as delicious as I remembered. f I had my hair in pigtails and was wearing my Big Bird bathing suit, I'd swear I was six again.
