Back in my college days, the night before Thanksgiving was a great night to go out. Friends were back home from school to reconnect with, local bars usually offered some drink deals to entice students (hey, cheap beer was important back then), and you really had no responsibility for the Thanksgiving meal other than to show up.
Now that I am married with two kids and usually either hosting Thanksgiving or preparing dishes to bring, going out to party the night before is usually pretty low on my agenda. That being said, my husband and I took a break from the holiday mayhem last year and headed out with some friends to the Turkey Testicle Festival. Yep, it's a festival honoring turkey balls. And it was a lot of fun.
The Turkey Testicle Festival is an annual tradition sponsored by the Parkside Pub in Huntley on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. It is an all-day event held under a huge heated tent, complete with live music, drinks, and turkey testicles. Since the testicles are breaded and deep-fried (gluten alert!), I was not able to partake. Based upon friends' commentary though, they taste like chicken.
The festival opens at 11am with 5 different bands playing until festival close at midnight. The cost is $10 at the door and goes to local charities.
