The 26th Brickyard 400: Indy Track

It’s that time of year again when the Indianapolis Motor Speedway lights up for the Brickyard 400. In its 26th year at IMS, the Brickyard’s Drive2SaveLIves BC39 event honors the late USAC champion and three-time Indianapolis 500 starter Bryan Clauson, as well as increasing awareness of the Indiana Donor Network. brickyard

Not just another stop on the NASCAR schedule, the Brickyard 400 is the weekend when drivers chase one of the series' biggest titles and the chance to take part in an IMS tradition, "kiss the bricks." Starting in 1996 with Dale Jarrett, legends who followed include Dale Earnhart, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart.

The one and only Brickyard 400 I’ve attended was the first, in 1993.I don’t remember a lot of racing, however, I do remember the hustle and bustle of the event’s first try at getting it right in its first year at Indy. Rather than watching cars race, we did a lot of waiting for the rain to stop and drying of the track. Not exactly the racing we’d hoped to see. But as anyone knows whose been to IMS, it’s a thrill just to stand on the hallowed ground.
