Have you ever gotten hungry - while watching your waistline - and wondered "what the heck should I eat?" Well...there's an app for that! Chicago-based lifestyle and wellness consultant, Jasmine Jafferali, MPH, ACE-CPT, just launched a new app called Snack Smart Solutions. Available on Droid and Apple devices for $1.99, the app is loaded with healthy, simple snack options that take the thought work out of eating healthy.
According to Jafferalli, "the ideal smart snack should be 150-200 calories, balanced in terms of protein, good fats, fiber and carbohydrates, nourishing using whole foods and is well proportioned. Studies show we are now consuming 570 extra calories per day today than we did in the 1970’s and that is primarily due to extra snacking and super-sizing our foods." An extra 570 calories a day adds on the pounds very quickly. Controlling both portion size and caloric intake can help level the playing field.
Snack Smart Solutions is loaded with 40 different snack options for people on a variety of diets, including gluten-free, nut-free, paleo and more. The thing I like most about the app are the categories that target the time of day you need a little something to eat. The app will showcase new snacks, with an additional 20 healthy options added by March of 2013. Jafferali's goal is to create about 100 healthy snack options for people to have at their finger tips. For many of us, if we can get our snacking under control, we can get our diet under control. This is a great app to get us moving in the right direction.
