Mini Comic Con 2014 RECAP: The Little Library that Could

The first cosplay of the day was a Creeper from Minecraft. Oh no, oh no, oh no- don't let it in the library!!
Last weekend was one of my busiest yet.  With the Chicago Fringe Festival, The Geek Show, and Eisenhower Library’s Mini Comic Con all piled up, I hardly had time to breathe!  I gotta say, though- I had ALL the fun.  Thank you to everyone who met me at these venues. I spent all of Saturday... Read more »

Phoenix Comicon 2014 RECAP: a Geeky Desert Oasis - Guest Blog by Susan Richmond

This Silver Surfer said it took under an hour to apply all that body paint. Maybe I should have asked how long it takes to remove it all, because that sounds super daunting!
I try to cover as many conventions as I can in the Chicago area.  When I leave the state, I consider it vacation time and do no work for the blog.  My best friend Susan, however, lives in Arizona.  She was planning a trip to Phoenix Comicon, 6/5-6/8, 2014 in the Phoenix Convention Center.  She offered... A Wedding of Fire and Blood: Pictures from Brewery Ommegang's Game of Thrones Party

I'm putting my own pic first, for once! Here I am, Daenerys Targaryen. This is the fastest costume I ever made, it only took about 3 days. ...Granted, those were 3 days staying up past 1AM. Worth it.
Last night, I changed my mind about Daenerys Targaryen.  I used to think this character from A Song of Ice and Fire was overrated.  She’s called The Mother of Dragons, Stormborn, Unburnt.  This girl frees slaves, gets tons of male attention, has three dragons- overpowered to the point of ridiculousness, right?  Um, wrong.  After Brewery Ommegang‘s latest... Photo Recap: Cosplay in the 2014 Chicago St. Patrick's Day Parade

Spider-Man spending some quality time with Black Cat.
Top o’ the evenin’ to ya, geeks!  I hope you all had a fine St. Patrick’s Day.  The holiday really spans a whole weekend in Chicago, but my favorite event is the Saturday parade.  Last year, cosplayers participated for the first time.  These costumed citizens were back in 2014, in larger numbers than before! This... Read more »

Con Alt Delete 2013 Recap: I Wasn't There, BUT...

Very creative- Sophie Hatter from Howl's Moving Castle at two different points in her journey.
Last weekend, a brand new convention was born.  Con Alt Delete (formerly Domo Con) is a fledgling anime con run by the folks behind Anime Midwest.  It was, unfortunately, the first event to fall prey to my wedding planning; I was unable to attend.  Thankfully, Geek Girl Jess- trusty photographer and friend- was on the scene... Chicago TARDIS 2013 Recap: Doctor Who Shows No Signs of Aging

An incredible Ten hanging out with his (former?) enemy, Cassandra. It was nice to see them putting their differences aside.
I’m just going to come right out and say it: last weekend’s Chicago TARDIS was the best I’ve been to.  Granted, I’ve only been going for three years, but the convention was clearly stepping up its game- it had to.  Doctor Who just celebrated its 50th anniversary.  This milestone brought fans to the Westin Lombard...
