NWI Comic-Con 2015 RECAP: I'm not Elsa!!

First of all, ladies and gentlemen, this is what Elsa from Frozen ACTUALLY looks like.
One of the best parts of writing Geek Girl Chicago is relationship creation. I’ve made a ton of new friends through blogging, and have become a years-long part of many conventions. Last weekend was the second-ever Northwest Indiana Comic-Con. I returned as a cosplay contest judge. Jess from Fandom Tandem reprised the role, too. The other... Read more »

Chicago TARDIS 2014 RECAP: Fifty Ways to Use a Westin

The most charming thing about this LEGO Eleven is the matching, fabric suit that's sticking out from the box. :)
One week ago, I was getting my badge for Chicago TARDIS 2014. I wasn’t sure I was going to have fun. Even though I’ve loved Doctor Who for almost a decade, I haven’t watched the Capaldi era. Would I still fit in? My friends found me immediately. First, it was JB from WHO 37. Then, a... Read more »

Valar Morghulis: Pictures from the Latest Game of Thrones Ommegang Beer Party

This Khaleesi's hand-made dragon egg IS ALSO A PURSE!!! OMG.
My current temperature is 102.3. Bronchitis! Nearly pneumonia! Don’t worry, gentle reader; I’m on antibiotics and getting lots of rest. This constant feeling of burning, however, has proven one thing: I am not really the Khaleesi, the Unburnt, the Mother of Dragons. I’d bet Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones never gets a fever… or... Read more »

Con Alt Delete 2013 Recap: I Wasn't There, BUT...

Very creative- Sophie Hatter from Howl's Moving Castle at two different points in her journey.
Last weekend, a brand new convention was born.  Con Alt Delete (formerly Domo Con) is a fledgling anime con run by the folks behind Anime Midwest.  It was, unfortunately, the first event to fall prey to my wedding planning; I was unable to attend.  Thankfully, Geek Girl Jess- trusty photographer and friend- was on the scene... Chicago TARDIS 2013 Recap: Doctor Who Shows No Signs of Aging

An incredible Ten hanging out with his (former?) enemy, Cassandra. It was nice to see them putting their differences aside.
I’m just going to come right out and say it: last weekend’s Chicago TARDIS was the best I’ve been to.  Granted, I’ve only been going for three years, but the convention was clearly stepping up its game- it had to.  Doctor Who just celebrated its 50th anniversary.  This milestone brought fans to the Westin Lombard... King for a Day: Pictures from Dan Con and the Take the Black Stout Launch

The Joker and The Doctor- lifelong friends or enemies?
Last weekend, at about this time, I was getting ready for Dan Con.  It was my first time down there, and well worth the drive to Orland Park.  I didn’t stay long.  I had a Game of Thrones party later that night, but still got a bit of content to share. Dan Con was split... Read more »

Anime Midwest 2013 Recap: Energetic, Affordable, and Crowded

Shizuo Heiwajima from Durarara! Huge prop is huge.
Before I even get started, I must extend a sincere “thank you” to my readers, old and new.  My “5 Things You Should Never Say to a Cosplayer“ article reached over 20,000 views.  WOW!!  The conversation it inspired has been a joy to participate in.  I truly feel honored.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.... Geeky Wedding Dresses in Science Fiction and Fantasy

First up are two lovely dresses from Doctor Who. These are particularly special because they weren't designed by a costume department. Donna Noble (left) wore a Jasper Conran piece, and Amy Pond (right) rocked Ben de Lisi. These were, at one point, available in UK stores. Now, they'll occasionally pop up on eBay or eBay UK. Just beware; Whovians are VICIOUS when it comes to online auctions!
At the beginning of March, I had the honor of standing up in my best friend’s wedding.  Since then, I’ve had weddings on the brain (watch out, geek guys)!  I’ve been thinking about my own, possible, maybe-someday wedding, and just how geeky I’d like it to be.  Would I go subtle, or full-on “Mal and...
