Leela, Far From Primitive: An Interview with Louise Jameson

Christmas has been successfully navigated- nailed it!  Today, I’ve been on Facebook and Twitter talking to readers about the geekiest gifts we all got.  I received a TARDIS hat along with bantha and tauntaun plushies.  The most relevant gift to this blog, though, was a remote flash for my camera.  My cosplay photography is going to be... Con Alt Delete 2013 Recap: I Wasn't There, BUT...

Very creative- Sophie Hatter from Howl's Moving Castle at two different points in her journey.
Last weekend, a brand new convention was born.  Con Alt Delete (formerly Domo Con) is a fledgling anime con run by the folks behind Anime Midwest.  It was, unfortunately, the first event to fall prey to my wedding planning; I was unable to attend.  Thankfully, Geek Girl Jess- trusty photographer and friend- was on the scene... Geek Bar Chicago LOCATION REVEALED!!

If you live in Chicago, you’ve heard of Geek Bar.  It’s the hottest hangout in the city for geeks and gamers… or, it will be someday.  Geek Bar shattered its Kickstarter goals, and promises everything from live fandom bands to comic book readings.  The thing is, it doesn’t exist yet.  That’s why I’m SO psyched... The Fifth Doctor, Rebooted: An Interview with Peter Davison

I’m on-record as saying this, but I’ll say it again: I loved The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot FAR more than the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special.  This short film, featuring Doctors Five, Six, Seven, and Eight, is a love letter to the fans.  So many characters!  So many references!  So many things that deserved to be... This GEEKend: WhoProv, MacSith, and Con Alt Delete

Before I even get into this, gentle reader, you need to know that I am blogging between rounds of Peggle.  Someone downloaded it to my fiance’s Xbox months ago.  We rediscovered it, and I’m completely addicted!  So, forgive me if this whole entry appears a bit disjointed. I have a few warm, cozy, indoor events... Read more »

The Bitter and Sweet Sixth Doctor: An Interview with Colin Baker

At this year’s Chicago TARDIS, I had the pleasure of interviewing several Doctor Who stars from the Classic era.  The first was Mr. Colin Baker, better known as The Sixth Doctor.  Baker lead the show from 1984 through 1986. Colin Baker’s history with Doctor Who is turbulent, to say the least.  He was dismissed from Doctor... Read more »

Chicago TARDIS 2013 Recap: Doctor Who Shows No Signs of Aging

An incredible Ten hanging out with his (former?) enemy, Cassandra. It was nice to see them putting their differences aside.
I’m just going to come right out and say it: last weekend’s Chicago TARDIS was the best I’ve been to.  Granted, I’ve only been going for three years, but the convention was clearly stepping up its game- it had to.  Doctor Who just celebrated its 50th anniversary.  This milestone brought fans to the Westin Lombard... This GEEKend: WolfCon and Chicago TARDIS

Happy Thanksgiving, geeks!  I woke up early to write so that I could make it out to my parents’ house later.  I have the Macy’s parade and subsequent dog show on TV- just two of many annual traditions. The Chicago geek community has two Thanksgiving traditions of its own: WolfCon and Chicago TARDIS.  Both are... Read more »

In Defense of Han Solo Getting the Girl (Inspired by RedEye's Elliott Serrano)

EDIT: Elliott posted a rebuttal to this post!  You can find it HERE. ***** On November 20th, Elliott Serrano of RedEye posted the following on Facebook: And here is the biggest problem I have with Star Wars in a nutshell: Luke Skywalker sees Princess Leia for the first time, falls in love and crosses a galaxy... Kollision Con 2013 Recap: New Location FTW

Haruko and Kanti from FLCL
As I lie on the couch, burning up with a fever, I reflect on last weekend.  I was healthy, energetic, and having fun at Kollision Con 2013. …I’m actually betting I caught the flu (aka “con crud”) at Kollision, but that’s not important. The convention where East “kollides” with West is still very much an... Read more »
