My 2016 New Year's resolution is financial

I always try to share my New Year’s resolutions on GGC. It’s more for me than for you, but hey- I’m glad you’re here, gentle reader. Last year’s¬†resolutions were successful. Sort of. I think I ended up making less cosplay instead of focusing on repairs, but the result was the same. The year before that... Read more »

Santa hat strut: Cosplay photos from Con Alt Delete 2015

Merida from Brave, with hair as orange as could be!
The art of cosplay often comes with suffering- painful shoes, itchy body paint, wigs that are too tight. Perhaps the greatest nemesis of the cosplayer is cold weather. I’ve always struggled with winter conventions. Costumes warm enough for the season are often unflattering. They’re ALWAYS too hot for the indoor portions of cons. So, you... Read more »

10 holiday party games that aren't Cards Against Humanity

1. DiXit - If you like Cards Against Humanity or Apples to Apples, you may very well dig DiXit. This game uses similar mechanics. Instead of words, though, DiXit uses gorgeous art. Each round, one player offers inspiration- a movie quote, sound effect, really anything. Then, all players secretly submit cards from their hands that they feel best embody the inspiration. Everyone votes on their favorite. The art is beautiful to look at. Best of all, the game pieces are wooden bunnies. Awww!!
Let me start by saying this: I love Cards Against Humanity. I know one of the game’s creators and several other employees. It has been a joy to watch a local company grow. I think CAH does amazing things for charity. Their Black Friday social commentary is on-point. They are great gift givers and supporters... Read more »

Being Dana Scully: My first LARP experience

When it comes to geek culture, I cast a pretty wide net. I play video games and board games, create cosplay, read science fiction and comics, collect action figures, write, draw, review… the list goes on. One hobby, however, is generally absent from my repertoire: LARP. LARP stands for Live Action Role Playing.¬†Participants create their... Read more »

6 Reasons Why Photobombing is the Worst

Friday night, my friends and I got together for Lakeshore Beverage and Brewery Ommegang’s latest Game of Thrones beer event- Return to the Throne. It was a fantastic time.
