Years ago, I got my first case of food poisoning. I ate a bad burger at Chili’s, went to a cute boy’s house, and proceeded to throw up 8 times in his apartment. That was our “first date.” The gent is my husband now, so I guess things work out. …Mostly. My stomach was never... Read more »
Thank you so much for all of the feedback from my last post. I received a nice collection of notes across Twitter, Facebook, and the blog. GEEKend event coverage is going to be better than ever! I’m starting by publishing early this week. Eventually, there will be a year-round calendar to bookmark. Won’t that be shiny and chrome?... Read more »
I’ve been thinking a lot about my This GEEKend posts. Weekend event logs were envisioned as the heart of GGC. I love keeping my area geekhearts informed about cool places to meet others. That said, I don’t always do the best job. If life surprises me, like a work outing did yesterday, I sometimes miss... Read more »
Up until recently, I thought “Thirsty Thursday” was an in-joke at my university. Don’t laugh. I recognize my own ignorance. The idea of starting the weekend early is at every university. …and club. …and bar. …and many households. In fact, tomorrow is a Thirsty Thursday of sorts for GGC. Geeky events in Chicago are kicking... Read more »
I got a surprise day off work today. Best Memorial Day weekend ever! So, I’ve made a To-Do list of productive things to get done between now and the holiday. It includes grown-up stuff like “Pay Car Insurance,” “Wash Car,” and “Freelance Editing Session.” Yaaaaaaawn. I’m keeping it balanced, though. Tonight’s agenda is literally “See... Read more »
Have you ever had a day just… disappear? I spent a lot of this morning thinking it was Thursday. Today is Friday. Thankfully, I figured it out, or I would have missed a dentist appointment. What happened to Thursday, though?? Oh, right- I played Dragon Age: Inquisition and saw Avengers: Age of Ultron. I guess Thursday... Read more »
If it wasn’t already obvious, I will be at C2E2 all weekend. I wasn’t excited about the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo until this afternoon. It’s… actually an incredible (and short) story. As of this morning, I was still unemployed. I had put a spending freeze on cosplay, and had no financial wiggle room. C2E2 wasn’t... Read more »
Would you all judge me if I said I wanted to blog earlier today, but was watching the Star Wars trailer? …and then watching it more? …and then desperately searching for tidbits about the new characters? …and then talking to my friends about it?! You get the idea. I did do one, non-Star Wars thing... Read more »
Everything I had planned for this week got canceled. I’m not exaggerating. A job interview, a meeting, and a sales transaction all fell through, each the day-of. It has been pretty frustrating, what with the extensive planning that goes into these things. I guess it’s just that kind of week. Thankfully, we’re almost through it.... Read more »
I just got some lovely news: The Chicago Video Game Law Summit, where I am speaking tomorrow, has sold out! I’m thrilled that the event has gathered such support. In the wake of GamerGate, a reasonable, educational discussion is VITAL. That said, I feel pretty intimidated. Most of the sample questions I received were well... Read more »
