The best cosplay of C2E2 2015 - FRIDAY

The first group I saw was an entire Hawk family. The family that cosplays together, stays together. :)
Geeks all over the Midwest have been waiting for today. C2E2 2015, the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo, has begun! Thousands of fans are descending on McCormick place, now through Sunday. The convention center is filled with art, celebrities, and of course, cosplay. I attended today in street clothes. My recent unemployment had meant a... Read more »

The hottest C2E2 2015 after parties to attend this GEEKend

If it wasn’t already obvious, I will be at C2E2 all weekend. I wasn’t excited about the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo until this afternoon. It’s… actually an incredible (and short) story. As of this morning, I was still unemployed. I had put a spending freeze on cosplay, and had no financial wiggle room. C2E2 wasn’t... Read more »

This GEEKend: Nerdgasm Burlesque, Ruby on Rails, CG2, and MORE

Would you all judge me if I said I wanted to blog earlier today, but was watching the Star Wars trailer? …and then watching it more? …and then desperately searching for tidbits about the new characters? …and then talking to my friends about it?! You get the idea. I did do one, non-Star Wars thing... Read more »

This GEEKend: Karoshi-Con, Danger Room, and Trek Trivia

I just got some lovely news: The Chicago Video Game Law Summit, where I am speaking tomorrow, has sold out! I’m thrilled that the event has gathered such support. In the wake of GamerGate, a reasonable, educational discussion is VITAL. That said, I feel pretty intimidated. Most of the sample questions I received were well... Read more »

I will NOT BE A GUEST at Chi-Fi 2015

I will officially NOT be appearing as a guest at Chi-Fi 2015. I know this decision is late, as the convention is this weekend. The truth is, I was giving Chi-Fi as long as possible to make right. Sadly, the laundry list of communication and compensation issues is too long. My name and likeness are still on... Read more »

NWI Comic-Con 2015 RECAP: I'm not Elsa!!

First of all, ladies and gentlemen, this is what Elsa from Frozen ACTUALLY looks like.
One of the best parts of writing Geek Girl Chicago is relationship creation. I’ve made a ton of new friends through blogging, and have become a years-long part of many conventions. Last weekend was the second-ever Northwest Indiana Comic-Con. I returned as a cosplay contest judge. Jess from Fandom Tandem reprised the role, too. The other... Read more »

This GEEKend: NWI Comic-Con, Adler After Dark, and Fermilab's Tevatron

I have been trying SO HARD to get my cosplay ready for this GEEKend. Dana Scully needs to be updated, and Daenerys needs a significant portion rebuilt. I’m also putting together some kid-friendly gear- Blossom from The Powerpuff Girls and Cruella from 101 Dalmatians. As usual, everything that could go wrong is doing so. The... Read more »

Kollision Con 2015 RECAP: Mixed Reviews

This Sherlock Holmes could actually play violin. I took his card- can't wait to hear more of his work.
Last weekend, I attended Kollision Con 2015. As I explained in my pre-con writeup, Kollision is another event that has migrated to the Hyatt Regency O’Hare. AnimeCentral, Con Alt Delete, and several other geek weekends all use this space. How did it work out? Well, it really depends on who you ask. Overall, Kollision Con... Read more »

This GEEKend: Kollision Con 2015

…Yep, I just typed “2014” and had to change it to “2015.” That’s going to be the state of things for the next few weeks. Happy 2015!! I spent all of today relaxing. My geek guy and I slept in, then got a HUGE, homemade lunch at a friend’s place. I was so full that... Read more »

Con Alt Delete 2014 RECAP: Ah, to be young.

Some of the first costumes I saw on Friday.
Last weekend, I returned to my roots- I went to an anime convention. Con Alt Delete 2014 took place at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare, the same hotel as my first convention ever. That was thirteen years ago. So, a wall of nostalgia hit me the second I entered. Con Alt Delete is a young people’s... Read more »
