My 2016 New Year's resolution is financial

I always try to share my New Year's resolutions on GGC. It's more for me than for you, but hey- I'm glad you're here, gentle reader.

Last year's resolutions were successful. Sort of. I think I ended up making less cosplay instead of focusing on repairs, but the result was the same. The year before that also went well. Both 2014 and 2015's promises to myself feel permanent. Hey, I'm getting better at reasonable goal-setting! Let's do it again!

This year's resolution is singular. My geek guy wants to go to law school, and this will likely reduce our income. However, we want a home and a dog someday. This will require more fiscal responsibility (even more than restricting cosplay production.) So, my 2016 resolution is this:

I will put money from every paycheck into savings.

I already put money into savings now and then. However, it only happens when it crosses my mind and feels convenient. 2016 will make the act of saving into a true priority.

I will start with a set amount, but will not punish myself if the amount is lower some weeks. I will strongly encourage myself to go higher when I have the means. Actually, this resolution already started by accident! I mistakenly deposited one of my Christmas checks into savings instead of checking, and just left it there. That's as good a start as any.

I treat myself to nice clothes, video games, musical instruments, and restaurant trips a LOT. In 2016, I'm putting FUTURE Lauren first instead of present-day Lauren. Savings aren't for when I feel like it or have extra to spare. Savings are a good idea all the time. That's it!

What are your New Year's resolutions? Share below- especially if they're geeky. :)
