This GEEKend: Raks Geek, Rock Band, and a Game Design Symposium

I'm gonna keep it brief, geekhearts, because today is FALLOUT DAY. My geek guy and I have TWO copies of Fallout 4 so we can play at the same time. I failed to score any Nuka Cola Quantum (WEEPING,) but hey, I probably shouldn't be drinking irradiated soda.

This GEEKend is starting early, with multiple Chicago events hitting on Thursday. I hope you're ready to have fun Thursday night, then rally for a Friday work day before the TRUE geekend begins. It's a good life skill to have.

Raks Geek - Remember when a video of a bellydancing Wookiee went viral? That beautiful beast is part of a larger, equally talented troupe. Raks Geek will again bring bellydance, fire, and flow arts to Chicago- but with a geeky twist. From lightsabers to a Mad Max Imperator, each artist doubles as a sci-fi favorite. Don't hesitate to see this show! There are only two dates scheduled. (Thursdays, November 12 and 19, 2015. 7:30 PM. MCL Chicago, 3110 N. Sheffield. $20-39. Buy tickets HERE. Facebook * Twitter.)

Live Rock Band Karaoke - I admittedly haven't played Rock Band since college, but man, I LOVED it then. I can't think of a better reason to pick it up again than charity. Chicago Loot Drop is putting aspiring rockers on stage at Emporium. You can bring a full band, or just yourself. Either way, proceeds help bring video games to children's hospitals. There's even a song request available, in case you have a favorite bit of DLC. (Thursday, November 12, 2015. 8PM. Emporium Arcade Bar, 1366 N. Milwaukee.$20+. Buy tickets HERE. Facebook.)

Passing Notes: Game Design for Everyone - I'm not only super pumped about Fallout, but also video games in general. This symposium, presented by DePaul's School of Design and Indie City Games, is for every level of game lover. The day will start with talks on diverse voices, politics, and design. Then, attendees can participate in 3 hours of game building. Don't forget your laptop, and get ready for a game jam! (Saturday, November 14, 2015. 11:30AM-6PM. DePaul University, 14 E. Jackson. FREE, sponsored by Video Game Art Gallery. Facebook.)

...All right, I'm off to the Wasteland. See you in a month or so. (I'm joking. I'm not joking.)

Yes, there are more events this GEEKend, but I'm saving them for a Star Wars post yet to come. :) Post below with what you think of Fallout, and how you'll be celebrating the Force.
