This GEEKend: Oak Lawn Fan Fest and International School of Comics open house

Have you ever had a day just... disappear? I spent a lot of this morning thinking it was Thursday. Today is Friday. Thankfully, I figured it out, or I would have missed a dentist appointment.

What happened to Thursday, though?? Oh, right- I played Dragon Age: Inquisition and saw Avengers: Age of Ultron. I guess Thursday happened- I just didn't write a GEEKend post anywhere in there. Oops!

Thankfully, all of the events on my weekend list happen tomorrow:

SATURDAY, May 2nd, 2015

Oak Lawn Public Library Fan Fest - My pals at Chimera's Comics are partnering with the Oak Lawn Public Library for the suburb's first convention. The OLPL Fan Fest falls on Free Comic Book Day. So, in addition to vendors, teen artists, vintage screenings, and board games, there will be plenty of free comics. A day's worth of panel programming is scheduled. Plus, a kids' area will feature crafts, and "Stormtrooper Storytime." I hope the troops take their helmets off before reading! I'm particularly excited for Raks Geek, belly dancers and long-time friends of GGC. Hurray for pop culture!! (Saturday, May 2nd, 2015. 9AM-5PM. The Oak Lawn Public Library, 9427 S. Raymond Ave., Oak Lawn. FREE. Official site.)

International School of Comics Open House - I was honored to tour the Scuola when it first opened. I'm happy to see the institution still growing in Chicago. Tomorrow, the world-renowned International School of Comics will be hosting an open house celebration. Starting at noon, prospective students, friends, and generally curious folk can wander into the school. There, faculty will be answering questions and reviewing portfolios. The school will also be offering peeks at its new library, which contains over 18,000 comics. An after party, with food and drink, will begin at 7PM. (Saturday, May 2nd, 2015. 12PM-12AM. International School of Comics, 1651 W. Hubbard. FREE. Official site * Facebook.)

Now, because it's apparently Friday and NOT Thursday, I need to get to the grocery store. It's time to stock the fridge and throw a backyard grilling party before my new job starts! Happy final unemployed GEEKend. :)
