This Week in Geek: Logan Arcade, School of Comics, and C2E2 Villains!

While I normally save events post for the weekend, there's a LOT going on in Chicago that the sci-fi, fantasy, and gamer communities should know about.  The weather is warming up just in time, it seems!  We can all get out of the house and enjoy some fantastic fun.

As I have so much to share, I'll just cut straight to the chase.  I'm going to title these like mini-articles just to amuse myself:

1. Logan Arcade Joins the Beercade Craze!  - Logan Hardware was originally part record shop, part arcade, part weirdy-cool museum.  It was a one-of-a-kind concept.  My favorite pinball machine in the city, Classic Doctor Who, was there.  This week, though, the Logan Hardware family grew.

In what I picture as a sort of reproduction by fragmentation deal, The Logan Arcade was born.  Yay!  I'm not surprised.  Headquarters and Emporium are so hot right now. I haven't visited the new spot yet, but when I do, I'll probably check out both addresses. The Logan Arcade is at 2410 W. Fullerton.  The record shop and museum can be found at 2532 W. Fullerton. Beer and lots of gaming in one building, music and a little more gaming in another- what's not to love?

2. School of Comics Schools Comic Shops! - Months back, I visited the International School of Comics.  I loved seeing the space and meeting the teachers- check out my notes.  Unfortunately, a lot of people still don't know about this asset to geek community.

Scuola is trying to get the word out with an informational comic shop tour.  They stopped at Graham Crackers in the Loop tonight.  On Friday, representatives will be at Challengers.  The Q&A session is scheduled for 7PM at 1845 N. Western, and I'm told it will be "low key."  If you've been meaning to pick up the latest issues of your favorites, consider timing your run with this presentation!

3. C2E2 Unleashes Villains, Regrets Nothing! - I really enjoyed C2E2's promotional efforts last year.  I walked in the St. Patty's Day Parade with them, and sent photographers all over the city for their Cosplay Around Town event.  For 2014, C2E2 is doing a set of "Heroes and Villains" parties.  The Heroes already had their evening out.  Tomorrow night, the villains come out to play!  Mwahahaha!!

Festivities will start at 7PM at McGee's Tavern & Grill, 950 W. Western. There will be a costume contest and drawing contest; both seem more structured than last year's.  The prizes are predictable but sweet: weekend-long passes to the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo. Sadly, my only villain costume involves sharp, metal claws that are each about a foot long.  The rules definitely say that's not OK.  ...Is Envy Adams a villain?  I don't think so, but...

4. Science Pub Seeks Aliens, Finds Beer! - Lastly, I haven't given a shout-out to my friends at the Homewood-Flossmoor Science Pub in a while. ...I use the term "friends" loosely, as I've never actually driven down to an event.  They just e-mail me all the time, so I like to pretend we're buddies. <3

Doctor Christopher McKay will be at Grady's Grill, 18147 Harwood Ave. in Homewood, tomorrow at 8PM.  This month's topic is a doozy- "The Search for a Second Genesis of Life in the Solar System."  Guys, life on other planets is seriously the most interesting, fantastic concept to me.  I am convinced that we will find life on another planet within my lifetime... but that's a discussion for later.

Get out there, gentle reader. Oh, and one more thing- I'm going to be a guest at Northwest Indiana Comic-Con this Sunday!  I'm honored to be judging the costume contest.  The website even has a cute pic of my Rogue costume.  If you're going to be there, please comment below.  I love meeting readers, and very rarely get over to Indy.
