This GEEKend: John Williams, Doctor Who Children's Library Day, and Press Start!

In my previous post, I mentioned that I will only be at Windycon for one day.  It's with good reason; this weekend is JAM-PACKED with geeky goodness across Chicago and its suburbs.   It will be a particularly joyful time for music-lovers and geeks with children.  Check out these fun things to do:

ALL WEEKEND:

John Williams at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra - John Williams is the powerhouse who composed the music from Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, and more.  He is returning to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to conduct his own work all weekend. It looks like the shows will sell out- unsurprising!  While I type this, I can count the number of tickets available on one hand.  In addition to the gorgeous sounds of the symphony, selections from Lincoln and Hook will be accompanied by visual montages.  Perhaps it's OK that I don't have the money right now; I'd just cry the WHOLE TIME.  (Friday and Saturday, November 8th and 9th, 8PM, and Sunday, November 10th, 3PM. $90-180, tickets available HERE.)

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9th:

Doctor Who Day at the Fountaindale Public Library - If you know any young (or young-at-heart) Doctor Who fans, set aside a few hours for a trip to Bolingbrook.  The Fountaindale Public Library will be hosting a Whovian Celebration.  The afternoon is set to be chock full of fun, with themed crafts (bow ties and buttons), games (Weeping Angel Race, Pin the Fez on The Doctor), and food (fish fingers and custard).  Best of all, costumed characters will be there to meet and take photos with guests.  I think you'll find Rose Tyler awfully familiar... *wink wink!*  (Saturday, November 9th, 11-4PM.  Fountaindale Public Library, 300 W. Briarcliff, Bolingbrook.  FREE + cost of snacks.  More info HERE.)

Press Start! Chicago - By now, you must know that I love video game music.  This Saturday is basically going to be heaven for me, because after being a Doctor Who character for children, I get to see three, game-crazy bands.  Heavenly!!  Playing With Power, Super Guitar Bros, and Arc Impulse will all be taking the stage at Emporium.  Can't wait to hear some Battletoads and Chrono Trigger tunes!  There's no cover, but you'll surely want to bring cash for beer and arcade games.  (Saturday, November 9th, 8PM.  Emporium Arcade Bar, 1366 N. Milwaukee.  FREE + cost of beer/games.  Facebook)

...but how will I hear the arcade games with the bands playing?? ;)

As usual, let me know if you'll be attending any of these events. I love to meet readers.  And give gifts to readers.  And take selfies with readers.  And follow readers home and demand snacks.  ...OK, not that last one.

Also, you know what's funny?  When you accidentally type "Chicago Sympathy Orchestra," Tweet about it, and the CSO immediately Retweets you.  Busted.
