Sometimes when I write events posts, I get super excited about all of the things I'm about to do and see. Other times, like this one, I get a little sad because I'm missing ALL OF THEM for cosplay work. ...I promise I'll be done talking about Dragon Con in a week. <3
Until then, please enjoy the following geek-tacular offerings. It's a particularly big weekend in Chicago as organizations everywhere are wrapping up the Summer:
SATURDAY, AUGUST 24th
Hulk Party - ...Wait, didn't I just write about one of these? Yup. One week after their LAST Hulk Party, the guys from the Northlake Library Hulk Indiegogo campaign are throwing another one. The Hulk statue has arrived, but fundraising efforts are still underway. Proceeds will go toward expanding the library's graphic novel collection and purchasing high-tech upgrades like a 3D printer and light tracer for young artists. Hulk go to suburbs! Hulk drink! Hulk donate! (Saturday, August 24th, 8PM. Possum's Pub, 2324 N. Mannheim, Melrose Park. FREE + drinks/donations. Facebook)
NMTC: The Next Regeneration - Chicago's own New Millennium Theatre Company is celebrating its 15th year. They also just got new Artistic and Managing Directors. What better way to mark both occasions than with a geeky gala? "The Next Regeneration" is an obvious Doctor Who reference, but activities will be offered for many types of geek. The event promises food, drinks, an XBox tournament, tabletop gaming, and a "time traveling" photobooth. There will also be song and skit performances inspired by comic books, TV, and movies. The price seems a little high, but it sounds like you get a lot, so... why not? Congrats on your anniversary, NMTC! (Saturday, August 24th, 8PM. Dank Haus Cultural Center, 4740 N. Western. $28 in advance HERE, $35 at the door. Official Site * Facebook)
SUNDAY, AUGUST 25th
Plan 9 Burlesque Cosplay Social - Stella Cheeks is an old friend of GGC, and Plan 9 is the geekiest burlesque troupe around. Instead of a show, the performers are hosting a laid-back hangout at Headquarters Beercade. Cosplay is optional, but all of the cool kids will be doing it. ;) Costumes, beer, pretty ladies, a raffle, and old school arcade machines? It's like someone made a list of my favorite things! (Sunday, August 25th, 6PM, raffle at 8. Headquarters Beercade, 2833 N. Sheffield. FREE. Facebook)
Carnal: Cosplay - Why, yes- even MORE cosplay! The second and last Sundays of each month, StereoKiller Productions presents Carnal at Neo Chicago. This dance party merges themed images, games, and sound. This weekend's theme is cosplay, so my blog took notice. There will be a costume contest for anime fans alongside the music of DJ Aaron Ackerson, S@int, and Jeff Moyer. The promo images aren't exactly family-friendly, so I'm assuming Carnal will be keeping with Neo's 21+ age restriction. Have fun, sexy party people. (Sunday, August 25th, 10 PM. Neo, 2350 N. Clark. FREE. Facebook)
I'm always looking for more events, so post your upcoming parties and productions in the comments below. :) Enjoy the GEEKend!
