C2E2 2013: Where To Go, What To See, and What I'm Wearing

If you're reading this blog, chances are you're looking forward to C2E2 2013- The Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo.  It's pretty much the biggest comic, sci-fi, and pop culture show in our fair city.  I already wrote about the after parties.  Here's the scoop on the main event, which starts... well, today.  Once again, I'm up late working on my cosplay.

Some famous folks are coming to C2E2 this year, including cast members from The Walking Dead and Pirates of the Caribbean.  Sci-Fi Speed Dating is back, as are the Chicago Ghostbusters.  TWO reality shows will be casting- King of the Nerds II and The Quest.  Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing female role models like Felicia Day, Natalie Dormer, and Ashley Eckstein.

Speaking of geek girls, Jess and I will be at McCormick all 3 days.  Find us!  I'll have GGC buttons, Avengers cologne, and lots of love for cosplayers.  We plan on taking more photos than we have at any other convention.  Here are the events and panels I am psyched about:

FRIDAY, APRIL 26th: I'll be dressed as Rose Tyler from Doctor Who.

Puppet Meltdown - C2E2 is great at highlighting local talent and organizatons.  Illinois's own Sea Beast Puppet Company has put together a medley of theatre for adults.  Puppets of all shapes and sizes will be showing off in live performances, short films, and more.  Cooooool.  (11:30 AM - 12:30 PM, Variant Stage)

Superhero Fitness Hula Hooping Challenge - Melanie Bolen recently wrote a guest article for me.  When she isn't blogging, her true passion is fitness.  Melanie and a partner will be teaching con-goers how to use hula hoops as a path to a better body.  Believe me, you'll want the workout to offset the 3 days of convention food.  ;)  I'll be bringing my custom hoop!  (2:30 - 4:00 PM, W375b)

Felicia Day Q&A - To say I idolize Felicia Day would be an understatement.  I probably have more screen-accurate Penny (Doctor Horrible) clothes than anyone in the world.  Needless to say, I'm COMPLETELY jealous of my friend/nemesis Elliott Serrano who gets to lead Ms. Day's Q&A.  I'm gonna sit in the audience and dream of the day I get to be as awesome as either of them.  <3  (6:30 - 7:30 PM, W471)

SATURDAY, APRIL 27th: I'll be dressed as Envy Adams from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

The Legal Aspects of Becoming Famous - I'm a sucker for things like this... basically because I know ZILCH.  I have NO IDEA how the legal system works once someone has a great business idea.  Competition is fierce in the geek media industry.  Time to take all sorts of notes... (12:15 - 1:15 PM, W476)

PoP! Double Dare - Oh MAN!  What could possibly be better than a nostalgic tribute to Double Dare?  ...Actually, I'd love a nostalgic tribute to Legends of the Hidden Temple, but that's neither here nor there.  This show promises all the trivia and physical challenges you'd expect.  You can even sign up at the con to be a contestant!  (2:00 - 3:00 PM, Variant Stage)

Keep Your Pants on 2: Electric Boogaloo - Why do second iterations of things keep calling themselves "Electric Boogaloo?"  Isn't it kind of tired?  Regardless, the content of this panel still sounds right up my alley.  BleedingCool.com columnists will be in the house to talk all about dating, relationships, and love in the geek culture.  I'm so into it.  I'd talk about geek romance all day if I could.  No, really.  Can that be my job?  (7:45 - 8:45 PM, W476)

SUNDAY, APRIL 28th: I'll be dressed as Elizabeth from Bioshock: Infinite.

Exorcising the Spectre of the Fake Geek Girl - While the great debate on geek girls and gatekeeping has cooled some online, the topic is far from settled.  Girls everywhere are still asked to defend their "geek cred," and for what purpose?  Lots of real-life geek girls I admire will be discussing what it means to be a geek, who gets the title, and who decides.  (12:15 - 1:15 PM, W473)

Meet R. L. Stine - Here comes another huge dose of nostalgia!  R. L. Stine wrote the Goosebumps books- a series that haunted and delighted children of the 90s.  Some of those titles truly scared a young Lauren, but I loved the "choose your own adventure" varieties.  Apparently, he's still writing.  It's amazing to think that I could have children someday who still read MAH FRAVRIT BERKS!!  (2:00 PM - 3:00 PM, W470b)

C2E2 - April 26th - 28th, McCormick Place, 2301 S. Lake Shore Dr.  $35-65.
