Golly gee, ChicagoNow audience. I sure do like you- the X-Wing doodles in your notebook, the way you look at LOLCats when your boss isn't paying attention. You make my heart go pitter-patter. I just wanna get to know you better, and talk nerdy to you, and take you to amazing events like these:
MONDAY the 8th (Tonight): The Chicago Nerd Social Club's Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Club - This 23rd meeting features Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Discussion begins at 6:30 PM at the Noble Tree Cafe, 2444 N. Clark. FREE!
TUESDAY the 9th: Star Trek Trivia - from the makers of Harry Potter trivia, this fundraiser asks the question, "Can I still remember how many times Tasha Yar died on-screen while I'm drunk?" The answer is yes. I mean three. ...Right. The event goes from 7:30 - 10PM at Harrigan's in Lincoln Park, 2816 N. Halsted. The $5 door proceeds help Project 891 theatre company.
THURSDAY through SUNDAY: Wizard World: Chicago Comic Con - It's The Windy City's premiere comic book and popular culture convention. I've been going to this one for years, and the dealers and guests always impress. They're expecting a record number of artists, so skip the lame fan panels in favor of local talent. I can't wait to see my close, personal friends Patrick Stewart, Bruce Campbell, Christopher Lloyd, Ray Park, LeVar Burton, Felicia Day, Billy Corgan, ALL of the original Wonka kids (?!), Torchwood guys, wrestling guys, zombies, Guildies, Jedi...
...I'm not actually friends with any of those people. :(
Chicago Comic Con, August 11th-14th, Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont. One-day tickets are $25. $50 gets you the weekend. I'll be there Saturday, sneaking around in costume.
That's the scene, folks. Life as a geek is never boring. Shucks.
