See Quick Sand and Thousands of Jungle Butterflies in Mexico - an Eco-Hula Eco-Adventure - Part 2

The Eco-Hula video series I hosted this season is all about real people exploring our environment. When the opportunity arose to go to Sian Ka’an, a UNESCO world heritage biosphere reserve in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, my team jumped with excitement.

In this video you will stand in masses of butterflies resting in quick sand along a water front, climb an impossibly steep jungle fire tower, and tour the jungles of Mexico with us.

Condensing the hours of video we had down to a few minutes was an insane challenge. There was so much to see; from ruins to rare jungle plants. Trekking through a jungle in 100 degree temperatures was difficult. Deep in the jungle the air is blocked by all the trees, so it is sweltering hot. While we filmed, we imagine how difficult it is for the native inhabitants of the jungle to sleep, eat, and live in such stifling heat.

While climbing the fire tower was scary, the real excitement for our team was touching nature – seeing thousands of butterflies flying within centimeters of our faces and getting to know unique plants within the jungle – absolutely priceless.

Watch the video and see more of the amazing journey we had in the jungles of Mexico on the Riviera Maya at Sian Ka’an, Mexico.
