This year has represented one of the MOST AMAZING years in my life for eco-travel. When traveling, some of the most interesting photos are on the road to your destination, not the destination itself. Though not necessarily "eco-oriented", I thought you would like to see the street pictures I took which feature the people of Mexico living life.
My absolute favorite shot is above - I love the little boy's face - he is so sweet. Here are my favorite other top 10 photos of people on the street in Mexico - the photos are from Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, Akumal - all along the Mayan Riviera coastline highway in 2010. Click through the below photo series (if you are receiving this via
email, you will have to click through to the actually post on the
website to see these photos).
It is early morning on the streets of Playa Del Carmen, Mexico and a young Mexican boy rides to work with his mother in the back of a van. I captured this photo from the street corner during a stop light.Gas station attendants are common in the Riviera Maya region, however, most attendants are men. Near Akumal is a gas station which has a female gas attendant - here you see her in the photo - and she's wonderful at her job and filled with smiles. I enjoyed meeting her.All tourist towns are concerned about safety for both its citizens and tourists. Here you see a local cop on the streets of Playa Del Carmen watching out for all our safety.Restaurants promoting specialty items sometimes have their chefs out front during the day hours so tourists can see how the food is prepared and want to come back in the evening. This chef is preparing a type of ravioli on the sidewalk in Playa Del Carmen. While driving in Cancun, I spotted this man smiling at me at a stoplight. I quickly snapped a shot before the stoplight turned and here he is.

While the box on this Mexican man's head resembles a fish tank, it is actually a donut and pastry carrier made of glass and metal. This man was walking extremely fast and would not stop to pose for a photo as he was dashing off to refill the container during the evening donut rush. This shot reminded me of when I was a kid riding in the back of a station wagon. The Mexican kids were riding on a busy street and waved at us whenever we waved at them. When I pulled out my camera they all smiled for the photo. They waved goodbye to me as well. Adorable! These men at a fruit smoothy stand in Playa Del Carmen were hysterically funny - mugging for the photo. None spoke English, but all wanted to be the center of the shot. After an aggressive tussle that included a fist and some pushing, the man in the red shirt landed the coveted role of "star of the photo". Along the Mayan Riviera coastline it is quite common to see bicycle cabbies on the street ferrying passengers, particularly tourists, across town. Here's one on a busy Mexican street at night. Two lovely friends stop to chat on the street in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico after lunch. Many Mexicans along the Riviera Maya strip do not own cars, but instead own mopeds or motorcycles, this lady is no exception.
