A whirlwind tour of thrift stores in Skokie will lead you first to a short strip mall on Dempster and the Hadassah House Resale Shop. Your second stop will be the Salvation Army Family Store, which is actually on Dempster in Morton Grove. (Sign up for the tour in tomorrow's post.)
Hadassah House, 5020 Dempster Street in Skokie, is across the street from the Skokie Swift station. Catch the Yellow Line at Howard and ride it to the first and only stop. If driving, there's a parking lot right in front.
Hadassah is a small resale shop with a boutique feel similar to the Lake Forest Hospital Resale Store. Donations from the community are accepted, but only the good stuff is kept for sale. Nothing worn out, dirty or in need or repairs willbe found in the housewares, furniture and clothing departments.
The clothing especially is in good shape. If you're lucky to find your size on the rack, a freshly cleaned and pressed men's suit is priced at $26 to $28. For women of a certain age and style, the shop is know for lots of Chico's pieces, career clothing and some high-end special occasion ensembles, such as a hand painted silk coat and dress from Yolanda, a mother-of-the-bride store in the 900 shops on North Michigan Avenue.
This Nipon cocktail suit, size 10, is priced at $18.
A lovely fact about the shop: it features two dressing rooms and full-length mirrors.
Prices are generous for housewares, too, where a set of 12 Dansk dinner plates are priced at $15.
Right now, and for the next few weeks depending on how much merchandise the shop receives, everything is on sale for 25% off. Furniture is on sale for 50%. If you have questions, just call.
