Gifty Things Here: The Save-a-Pet Thrift & Gift

IMG_8047.jpg

I must have passed by this shop a hundred times. It's been right there on the north side of the street on my way to the produce market, but I never realized what it stands for -- a cause near to my heart and the foot of my bed -- pets.

Maybe it's because the sign on the shop simply says THRIFT & GIFT, which continually made me wonder how a gift shop can survive in this downsized economy. I get it now, duh---no room on the sign for the Save-a-Pet part.

As Part 3 of my Skokie Thrift tour, I stopped in the the Thrift & Gift on Saturday on our way to the grocery store (Oakton Market and its amazing produce). I brought a two-year-old shopping partner along, and he was very excited by the Christmas decorations there -- ceramic village items, tabletop snowmen, trees, holiday dishware and ornaments.  It's a small shop, maybe the size of a 7Eleven inside, with modest prices on eveCorything.

Need a hard case cat carrier?  There were two on the shelves priced at $10 each.  Also, a small media and clothing department and lots of jewelry at the front counter.  The gallery below will give you an idea of what the shop has right now.

Donations come from those in the pet community to help fund the shelter and Save-A-Pet adoption services. If you have a moment, please stop in and lend your support. too.
