Hudson and Holmberg dealt for Edwin Jackson

White Sox top prospect Dan Hudson and 2009 second round draft pick David Holmberg have been traded to Arizona for starting pitcher Edwin Jackson. Hudson being traded is less than a surprise, but Holmberg’s name had not come up much. In our recently released midseason top 25 prospect rankings, Hudson was No. 1 while Holmberg... Read more »

Hot and Cold 7/15-7/21

If you thought hitting .516 would be good enough to make you the hitter of the week, you’d be wrong, as Ryan Lee misses out due to an even better week by a certain Winston-Salem Dash outfielder. That’s right, it’s time for another Hot and Cold…

Top 25 Review: 15-11

Phegley's season got derailed just as it began. He was diagnosed with ITP Syndrome a week into the season and just got back to playing a couple weeks ago. The White Sox have a few quality catching prospects, but the first three Sox picks from 2009 have missed significant time this season with injuries. Hopefully Phegley can stay healthy and finish the season on a positive note.
For one reason or another, the next five prospects in the top 25 review have been disappointments this year. Let’s take a look at this group, see how big of a hole they’ve dug themselves and if they can get out.

Hot and Cold 6/17-6/23

Stephen Sauer was one of my sleeper prospects coming into the year, but has really disappointed and he had another bad start this week. In 6 IP, Sauer gave up 5 ER (7.50 ERA), with 8 hits, 3 walks (1.83 WHIP) and 2 strikeouts. He did have an impressive 7.00 GO/AO, and his ground ball rate for the season has been strong at 2.48 GO/AO, but his K/9 has fallen to just 3.97 and his ERA sits at 4.32. I liked Sauer's combination of ground balls and strikeouts last year, but his stuff hasn't played at High-A, and he's fallen down my prospect list as a result. Honorable mentions: Justin Edwards (11 IP, 5.73 ERA, 5 SO/2 BB), Matthew Hopps (4.1 IP, 12.46 ERA, 2 SO/ 1 BB) and Charlie Delk (3.2 IP, 19.64 ERA, 5 SO/0 BB).
The short season leagues kicked off this week, and while there wasn’t enough time for any rookie ball hitters to make their mark on the Hot and Cold list, there was enough time for a starter or two.

2010 FutureSox Preview: Left-handed starters

It’s back to our season previews. We go from what is arguably the deepest position in the system, catcher, to one of the thinnest, left-handed starting pitching.
