White Sox All-Draft Pick Team

White Sox All-Draft Pick Team
The White Sox have gotten a lot of flack for their drafts, more specifically draft spending. They have had some good picks that developed into solid ball players so let’s take a look at the best of that group for the last decade (2001-2010). This is an attempt at a 25-man roster based on the... Read more »

Hudson and Holmberg dealt for Edwin Jackson

White Sox top prospect Dan Hudson and 2009 second round draft pick David Holmberg have been traded to Arizona for starting pitcher Edwin Jackson. Hudson being traded is less than a surprise, but Holmberg’s name had not come up much. In our recently released midseason top 25 prospect rankings, Hudson was No. 1 while Holmberg... Read more »

FutureSox Midseason Top 25 Prospects

FutureSox has published our 2010 Mid-Season Top Prospects list! We publish the list three times a year – early April just as the minor league season begins, July after the draft picture gets solidified and the minor leaguers have part of a season under their belts, and then in early October after the Major League... Top 25 Review: 5-1

The midseason top 25 review concludes with the top five White Sox prospects. Two players have met or surpassed expectations, two have had their struggles and of course Jared Mitchell’s injury was the early story of 2010. As this series concludes, we are preparing our midseason top 25 prospect rankings so keep an eye out... Read more »

FutureSox Prospects of the Month: June 2010

Dan Hudson continues to show his slow April was just that and nothing to worry about. In six June starts he went 5-1 with a 2.08 ERA. He struck out 40 and walked 13 in 35 innings. A recall to the Majors has to be coming soon, whether it's via trade or injury. Others: Carlos Torres (1.71 ERA, 23 K, 13 BB in 31.2 IP) and Santos Rodriguez (1.17 ERA, 23 K, 6 BB in 15.1 IP).
Rookie ball is gearing up and the second half of the minor league season is underway. The Winston-Salem Dash were the only first half division winners for the White Sox. There still have been a few strong performers in what has been an otherwise disappointing minor league season in the Sox organization. Let’s see who... Read more »

Hot and Cold 6/24-6/30

It's not often that a short relief pitcher manages to give up 7 ER in one appearance, but Clevelan Santeliz managed just that this week. In three appearances (3.1 IP) he gave up 7 ER (18.90 ERA), allowing 3 walks, 7 hits (3.00 WHIP) and stuck out 0. After a great 2009 season Santeliz is laboring here in 2010 with a 6.00 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 20 BB/21 SO. Nobody questions Santeliz' arm, he gets good velocity and has a wicked slider, but the command and polish isn't there right now. Honorable mentions: Andre Rienzo (1.2 IP, 43.20 ERA, 1 BB/1 SO), Johnnie Lowe (0.2 IP, 94.50 ERA, 2 BB/1 SO) and Stephen Sauer (3.1 IP, 21.60 ERA, 3 BB/2 SO).
The first full week of rookie league action brings with it a whole host of new talent to consider for the Hot and Cold list. Unfortunately one recent draftee makes the list as the week’s cold hitter.

Hot and Cold 6/3-6/9

Joe Serafin, a diminuitive lefty from Tariffville, CT had a rare bad start this week for the Kannapolis Intimidators. In 4.1 IP, Joe gave up 6 ER (12.46 ERA) on 12 hits, with 2 walks (3.23 WHIP) and 1 strikeout. Serafin has been a pleasent surprise since being drafted by the White Sox in the 37th round of the '09 draft. This year he has compiled a 5-3 record with a 3.55 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 36 SO/19 BB. He has a decent ground ball rate (1.83 GO/AO), but has given up a fairly high amount of home runs (7). Honorable mentions: Nevin Griffith (4 IP, 9.00 ERA, 0 SO/4 BB) and Justin Collop (5 IP, 7.20 ERA, 3 SO/1 BB).
That’s right, Hot and Cold doesn’t take a break, not even for the draft. Guess which top catching prospect has started to perform again?

FutureSox Prospects of the Month: May 2010

Brandon Kloess (15.2 IP, 0 R, 23 K, 3 BB, 8 H) actually finished second in our voting, but I just HAD to use this photo of Kyle Bellamy (19.2 IP, 1.37 ERA, 22 K, 2 BB, 14 H). Kloess was a NDFA that the Sox signed out of indy ball. The 25 year-old is not much of a prospect at this point, but his 37:5 strikeout to walk ratio and sub one ERA on the year is getting it done in A-ball. Dan Hudson also rebounded with a strong month: 37 IP, 2.43 ERA, 44 K, 8 BB, 29 H.
The White Sox minor league system is having a rough season. The first three picks from the 2009 draft are injured and will miss a significant amount of time. However, there are still some bright spots. Let’s take a look at the best of May.

Hot and Cold 5/20-5/26

Cold hitting is clearly infectious as several members of Charlotte’s lineup put forward good cases to be this week’s cold hitter, with Tyler Flowers the pick (or non-pick?) of the bunch.

Hot and Cold 4/29-5/5

This weeks ‘Hot and Cold’ features a myriad of poor offensive performers from the Kannapolis Intimidators and a top pitching prospect’s return to form.
