Hot and Cold 8/8-8/14
The deadline for signing draft picks is fast approaching, but as usual there is little news on the White Sox front. 29th rounder Dustin Hayes signed, but that doesn’t seem like major news. With that in mind, let’s continue business as usual with a new Hot and Cold. Hot Hitter: Jon Gilmore, 1B/DH, AA Stats:... Read more »

Are White Sox Prospects Age Appropriate?

Recently I had a discussion about the state of the White Sox system and the age of prospects at certain levels was one of the points of contention. A number of Sox farmhands are off to hot starts in leagues where they are older than the competition. Obviously, it’s early in the year so to... Read more »

Hot and Cold 7/29-8/4

Charlie Shirek was bumped up to Triple-A for his start this week but it was not one to remember. In 5.2 IP for the Knights Shirek gave up 7 ER (11.12 ERA), allowed 6 hits and 4 walks (1.76 WHIP) while striking out 3. Shirek was lights out to start the year but has battle injuries and mixed form since then. His season numbers now sit at 4.26 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 40 SO/21 BB in 74 IP. Honorable mentions: Stephen Sauer (5 IP, 10.80 ERA, 2 BB/3 SO), Matthew Hopps (5 IP, 9.00 ERA, 1 BB/2 SO) and Matt Zaleski (6 IP, 7.50 ERA, 1 BB/7 SO).
Another trade deadline comes and goes, and with it, the White Sox farm system is further thinned out. While Dan Hudson and David Holmberg will no longer be appearing on the Hot and Cold list, there are still plenty of other prospects to choose from.
