Scouting report
The Venezuelan went back and forth between starting and relieving in the Padres' system, but his future is as a reliever. Hernandez pitched over three levels in 2011, starting the year in high-A and struggling in a short stint in AAA before finishing the season in AA. He has good control (1.59 BB/9 in his 3 minor league seasons) and a passable strikeout rate (7.41 K/9). At 5-foot-10, Hernandez struggles to scrape 90 with his fastball, but he has three good pitches (fastball, curve, change) that he throws for strikes. The fact that he has a decent change up means he could be used as a starter, but most reports on him project him as a reliever. He's near MLB ready and could push for a White Sox bullpen spot shortly.
Major League Outlook: Middle reliever/No. 5 starter
ETA: Late 2012-2013
