Scouting report
When drafted, Heidenreich was viewed as a very raw high school prospect, but the California native has made steady improvements as a pro thanks to a reportedly strong work ethic. Currently, his fastball is a low 90s sinker, but given his frame adding velocity is a realistic possibility. His change is becoming closer to an average pitch. He also features a slider, which is his third best pitch. Heidenreich showed his improvement in 2010 with a strong showing for Bristol (76 IP, 2.49 ERA, 58 K, 11 BB) and held his own for Kannapolis in 2011. He is a good control pitcher, but will need to develop his change or slider further to be able to get more strike outs. Projecting him is extremely difficult right now because he won't be a good prospect unless he continues to improve, but he has the makeup and projectable body to do so.

Heidenreich returned to the White Sox organization for 2015, after being traded to Houston mid-2012. His 2013 was pretty ugly results-wise, and in the AFL that fall he was essentially made-over by the Astros mechanically. He also had some minor injuries that year. 2014 saw him battle through that process, and the results weren't much better as he gave up a lot of hits but also struck out nearly a batter an inning back down in A+. Here in 2015, the now 24-year old has put up some very good results with Advanced A Winston-Salem as a starter, inducing quite a few ground balls and getting core results while walking few and not getting hit hard. No recent reports on stuff, but the real test will be what he does if/when he reaches AA again.

Major League Outlook: back end starter or long man
ETA: Late 2016 or 2017
