- #21 Midseason 2018
The White Sox used their 3rd round pick in the 2018 draft to select Pilkington out of Mississippi State University. The 20-year-old was one of the youngest college pitchers in the draft class. Konnor was talked about as a potential top 10 overall pick after his Sophomore season in the Bulldogs rotation. His stuff backed up a bit as a junior and the Sox were able to nab him later than expected. The southpaw pitched for the USA Collegiate National Team and in the Cape Cod League and was very successful in those stints. Konnor got a late start pitching for the White Sox organization after playing in the College World Series and signing late. He's thrown less than 10 innings in the system so far and is currently at Great Falls which is the Advanced Rookie Level affiliate in the White Sox system.
Pilkington threw his fastball in the 94-96 mph range in the past but sat mostly 88-91 mph during his junior season. He does project to have 3 solid or better offerings with his 55 grade changeup as his best pitch. His fastball or slider should also be average or better. His velocity ticked down in college but he still got hitters out because of his arm slot that creates steep downhill plane. Pilkington has a high floor of being a back end starter in the big leagues. His strong arm should allow him to eat innings as well. Konnor also repeats his delivery very well.
Major League Outlook: Mid-Rotation Starter ceiling
