Scouting report
Gilmore was taken 33rd overall in 2007 by the Braves, but hasn't come close to that potential yet. He spent two years in rookie ball with the Braves after struggling in Low-A to start 2008. Then Gilmore got shipped to the Sox in the Javier Vazquez trade. He was supposed to have power to all fields, but hasn't hit more than five home runs in a season yet. He makes good contact and can hit for a decent average. However, like many young hitters, Gilmore doesn't draw enough walks. As raw as he is at the plate, he might be rougher defensively, racking up a whopping 40 errors at third base with Kannapolis in 2009. He has the arm strength
for third, but is below average otherwise. Gilmore closed '09 on a strong note to stay on the radar as a prospect and finished second in the Carolina League batting title to Brandon Short in 2010, but it was an empty average. The Florida native continued to tease his power potential by winning the home run derby, but hit just five homers. 2011 was supposed to be a big year for Gilmore, but multiple injuries limited his playing time. If he can develop some power he could be a decent bat off the bench to hit against lefties

Major League Outlook: Offensive threat off the bench
