Scouting report
With Petricka, it all starts with his velocity. He has a mid 90's fastball and holds it deep into games. He also features a decent curveball that has shown improvement and a usable change. In his final year of college he struck out 113 in 100.2 innings, however, he walked 47 batters. He had issues repeating his delivery, but has improved his control as a pro. Petricka's secondary pitches aren't that developed, especially for a college pitcher, leading many to believe his future is in the bullpen. Petricka had Tommy John Surgery in 2007 so injuries could be a worry going forward. Overall, he has plus velocity with a workable, potentially good curve. He could end up as a top tier relief prospect or profile more as a middle of the rotation starter if he can keep improving his off speed stuff. Since the Sox don't have many quality starting pitching prospects and have quite a few good relievers, Petricka will probably remain a starter until he shows he can't do it.
Major League Outlook: Reliever or No. 3/4 starter
