Scouting report
Johnson was a second round pick in a deep class of college pitchers in 2011. He should be able to handle a heavy workload and has the ability to move through the system fairly quickly. With four pitches, Johnson definitely profiles as a starter. He has a fastball that sits in the low 90s, a good curve, an inconsistent change and a below average curve. The repertoire is there to make Johnson a top 10 prospect in this system quickly. His control in college was mediocre (50 BB in 96 IP as a junior) stemming to trouble repeating his delivery. The Sox have a good history of improving mechanics on pitchers like that so there is reason for optimism with Johnson. The Cal product made just two appearances for Great Falls in 2011 after a long season with the Bears that resulted in a trip to the College World Series.
Major League Outlook: No. 3/4 starter
