Scouting report
Short was an under-the-radar breakout prospect in 2010 that earned some attention with a 26-game hit streak almost right out of the gate for Winston-Salem. He wasn't even listed in the White Sox depth chart of the 2010 Baseball America Prospect Handbook and Diamond Futures had him outside their top 51 Sox prospects. It's hard to get much more off the radar than that. After getting drafted in 2008, he hit .273 at Bristol with a .357 OBP, but little power. He started 2009 in extended spring training and joined Kannapolis in May. After a dreadful start he hit .293 from June until the end of the season. He carried that momentum over and then some, hitting .316 with 15 HR for the Dash to win the league batting title. In 2011, Short was inconsistent in AA. A 19-game hit streak in May got his season going, but he hit just .214 in the second half. Short is a good athlete with decent speed, but doesn't profile as a centerfielder. He is an average defender in the corners, where his bat will have to carry him to be able to play there. He doesn't draw enough walks to be a leadoff type of hitter and only has decent power, but Short is worth following because of success at an age appropriate level.
Major League Outlook: Fourth outfielder
