7/12 recap: Leesman, Bassitt rehab in Arizona

A number of strong pitching performances highlighted the day. Tyler Danish put in a solid outing, Andre Wheeler struck out 9 in just 4 innings, Zach Thompson had the best start of his pro career and Chris Bassitt and Charlie Leesman made rehab appearances for the Arizona White Sox.

Knights 5, Syracuse 3

Marcus Semien 2-5, 2B, HR #5
Jordan Danks 3-3, HR #12, 2 BB

Marcus Semien has been mediocre since returning to Charlotte. He had a miserable June once he was sent down from the Majors (.188/.292/.365), but has been better in July (.282/.391/.385).

Jackson 7, Barons 1

Chris Beck 6 IP, 4 R, K, BB, 6 H

Rangel Ravelo went hitless again, a night after having his 26-game hitting streak snapped.

Carolina 2, Dash 1

Tyler Danish 5.1 IP, R, K, 2 BB, 5 H

A solid start from Tyler Danish that went down as a no-decision. In nine starts with the Dash he has 34 strikeouts and 9 walks with a 3.95 ERA in 41 innings.

Asheville 7, Intimidators 5 in 15

Andre Wheeler 4 IP, UER, 9 K, 2 BB, 3 H

Wheeler had a great start that finished long before the game ended. Kanny led 3-1 entering the ninth, but blew the lead. They scored a run in the bottom of both the 12th and 13th to keep the game alive before finally losing in 15. Christian Stringer had 3 hits and Nolan Earley had 4 in the loss.

Voyagers 7, Idaho Falls 3

Zach Thompson 4 IP, 0 R, 2 K, 0 BB, H

Zach Stoner and Ryan Jones each blasted their first homers of the season to support Zach Thompson's strong start. Thompson, this year's fifth round pick, had the longest of his four professional starts and lowered his ERA to 1.59 in 11.1 IP.

Arizona White Sox 3, Cubs 1

Micker Adolfo 2-3, 2B, BB
Chris Bassitt 2 IP, 5 K, H

This was probably Micker Adolfo's best game as a pro and also included two rehab appearances. Charlie Leesman (1.2 IP, R, 3 K, BB, 3 H) started the game and Chris Bassitt had a strong relief outing for his season debut. Bassitt entered the season with some expectations after a strong 2013, but he won't have much time to show himself in the high minors after missing most of the season already.
