Christmas, the Republicans and the 9/11 First Responders

Tonight The Daily Show with Jon Stewart featured five 9/11 First Responders who were each dying from the cancers they contracted from working around the clock at Ground Zero - and who are not able to get coverage for their health care because Republicans have blocked the Bill.

A few months ago, ABC cited a report that stated "Nearly 70% of 9/11 First Responders have debilitating respiratory illnesses" that they will deal with for the rest of their lives or from which they will die. The panel represented on The Daily Show said their insurance companies informed them that they couldn't be sure that their throat, lung and brain cancers were caused by 9/11!

The James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, which provides compensation for these firefighters, police officers, equipment operators, and others has been held up in the Senate by Republicans who blocked the Bill in order to assure tax cuts for the richest would be passed. When brought up for a vote, 41 Republicans voted AGAINST this Act.
Once they were assured that the tax cuts are on their way, Republicans don't think they have enough time between now and the New Year to pass both the tax cuts and the Act.
This is a moral issue. Compelling these heroic men and women to worry about their families' financial survival because they can't pay for their health care - as they die from Ground Zero inflicted health issues - is unconscionable.
Jon Stewart reported that none of the major networks covered these facts in the last few weeks. He said that Fox, the biggest 9/11 bell ringers, have only one news reporter who is outraged, but will not name the Republicans as responsible for pushing off the Bill. The Republicans reason for not passing the bill was that it was too much money and they weren't sure it would go to the Ground Zero heroes.
Thank God that an intelligent comedian will bring to light what politicians and the corporate owned media refuse to do - report the news.
I have an idea:
Now that multi-millionaires are assured large tax breaks, why don't we ask them to donate their extra money to pay for the 9/11 First Responders Health Insurance!
