Lecture me on pork and beef? Puh-lease!
I practice moderation

I am an open-minded person, believe me. But I must admit, that I do find it quite disturbing, and downright amusing, when people attempt to lecture me on the negative effects of eating beef and pork, when I'm sitting there lean and fit, and they're sitting there as big as a cow and a pig! Really? You're giving me nutritional advice? I don't think so.

As a fitness spokesperson and mom of six, I feel the pressure of looking fit and trim when everything on my body isn't perfect. I wish I didn't have cellulite. I wish I didn't have a scar on my abdomen from major surgery and a C-section. And I wish I had six pack abs. But I know I am working on my health transformation daily, so I cut myself some slack. I know we are all a work in progress. I love helping people with their physical, mental, spiritual, and financial transformations.  It's a daily process.  I get that.

But let me ask you this: how ridiculous would I look and sound lecturing the Shark Tank crew on finances when I'm in the process of creating my fortune. Sure, they love and respect and can appreciate my work ethic and passion, but they sure as heck aren't going to sit up and listen to me rant and rave about what people need to be doing with their money when I don't have a stack anywhere as big as theirs. In my business, the person with the biggest stack gets the floor and commands attention. Maybe that's what the big lady thought who was lecturing me yesterday, except maybe hers was a stack of pancakes.

I mean, really! I didn't even try to get into a conversation with this seemingly nice lady. But it's almost like, once people find out I'm into fitness, they wanna drill me like my life is some sort of open book test.

"Do you eat farm raised fish?" they ask me.

"Why yes, I do eat catfish and tilapia and I'm not sure where it's from. Maybe China. Maybe not. All I know is that it's good to me."

"Really? I can't believe someone who's supposed to be as knowledgeable as you would eat that!"

"Well, I can't believe someone as obese as you is trying to lecture me on eating healthy."

You'll be pleased to know that I didn't say that. But I was thinking it. Instead, I just said, "Well, yes, I do."

Then they wanna go for the jugular.

"What about pork? Do you eat pork?"

And because I don't eat pork often, I actually had to pause and really think about it, and then I remembered my husband standing at the island chopping his rib tips like he was competing on the Master Griller show, and my mouth watered over like Homer Simpson's. "Argghh. Pork," I thought.

"Yes," I answered. "Yes, I eat pork."

"Oh my God, I can't believe it? Not the swine!"

Well, believe it, because I do.

I'm sorry, but I just don't agree with people who stand on a soapbox preaching something they don't live or model. I think it's wonderful that some people are more enlightened than others. That's what makes the world go round because we are all unique, valuable, and authentic. But don't try to infringe your beliefs upon me.

As it relates to food, I think Jesus summed it up for us best: "It's not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth." (Mt 15: 11) Or as Ghandi said, "Be the change you want to see in the world." If you want to preach on health, look healthy. Otherwise, please leave me alone and pass me the sauce. I'm enjoying being free.
