Fire outlast Impact 3-2

Bastian Schweinsteiger's 88th minute goal gave the Fire a 3-2 victory in a must-win match at home against the Montreal Impact. The win pulled to Fire back to within three points of the seventh playoff position in the Eastern Conference.

Schweinsteiger gathered a loose ball from another corner kick in the eighth minute to find Dax McCarty near loose near the top of the penalty area. McCarty finished neatly into the lower right corner of the net for his first goal in a Fire shirt.

The Fire looked to be on their way to an easy win in the 19th when Francisco Calvo threaded a perfectly weighted pass to Aleksandar Katai streaking behind the Montreal defense. Katai found Nemanja Nikolic in front of the goal for a 2-0 lead.

Montreal got back into the game in the 34th when Saphir Taider got behind Johan Kappelhof on a counter but his touch failed him and Kenneth Kronholm hesitated in closing on the loose ball. Taider gathered the ball and was taken down by Kronholm leading to a penalty kick, which Taider finished.

The Fire looked to be on their way to another disastrous result in the 76th when Jorge Corrales' cross found Bacary Sagna for a header to level the match at 2-2.

Schweinsteiger headed in Mihailovic's corner kick delivery twelve minutes later to preserve the three points.
