After what felt like a positive draw in Toronto last weekend, the Fire returned to Bridgeview and only managed to get one point at home against a winless Vancouver Whitecaps side. The 1-1 draw sets up an early must-win situation at home next weekend against a beatable Colorado team before three consecutive road games.
After looking like the better side for most of the match, the Fire shot themselves in the foot once again. David Ousted misplayed and fumbled an errant cross at the edge of his box which allowed Yordy Reyna to sneak the ball past him into an open goal in the 53rd minute.
The Fire levelled the match in the 85th minute on Nemanja Nikolic's penalty kick. The Fire were awarded an attempt from the spot when referee Jair Marrufo resorted to VAR to rule that the ball struck Vancouver defender Doneil Henry on the arm inside the box.
