Atlanta United top Fire 2-1

The Fire played well enough to challenge Atlanta United but ultimately, the visitor's ability to counter and convert on mistakes in the attack led to a 2-1 Atlanta victory. Two lapses, in the 53rd and 57th gave Atlanta a 2-0 lead that the Fire couldn't fight back from this time.

The lone goal came from a Kevin Ellis volley in the 61st that got the Fire close but they couldn't find a late equalizer this time.

Fire line up

Sanchez; Ellis, Kappelhof, Lillard (Campbell 80'), Vincent; McCarty, Adams (Gordon 59'), Collier (Campos 59'), Katai; Schweinsteiger, Nikolic

subs not used: McLain, Bronico, Johnson, Tchani

  • GR, did you see the rumor that NR is in Madrid talking with Fernando Torres? I hope this is not true. Torres was a terrific player, but do we really want to have a 34 year old striker? We need young DP level players. Speed and creativity in the final third is what our team is lacking not an over the hill former supstar. Ugh!!! Do these guys have any clue how to build a succesfull team in MLS? I would love to see these guys find a 22 year old CAM who can dominate. There has got to be at least one player of DP level skills in the world who is young and strong who would be willing to come to Chicago!!! Is this Freddie Ljungberg 5.0?

    Here is a list:

    1. Tomas Martinez, age 19 River Plate
    2. Cristian Benavente, age 20 Real Madrid
    3. Giorgian De Arrascaeta, age 20, Defensor Sporting (Uruguay)
    4. Juan Fernando Quintero, age 21, (Forget this guy we already dropped the ball on Quintero!!!!)
    5. Juan Iturbe, age 21, Roma
    6. Nicolas Benedetti, age 21, Deportivo Cali (Minnesota target, but not good enough for the Fire, What?????)
    7. Kenny Rocha Santos, age 18, St. Etienne, France
    8. Branco Provoste, age 18, Colo Colo, Chile
    9. Vincent Thill, age 18, Metz FC
    10. Hadji Dramé, age 18, Yeleen Olympique, Mali (really a winger, but so what he looks to be a great player).
