It wasn't pretty and it took some offensive heroics from "centerback" Bastian Schweinsteiger for the Fire to pick up their first point of the season. The Fire needed to come from behind twice against a team playing its' fourth consecutive road game of the year. Although the point beats the result of the previous two matches, coach Veljko Paunovic warned that things may not get better immediately.
Schweinsteiger dropped back as the centerback in a 3-5-2 formation about midway through the first half after the Fire began the match in a 4-2-3-1 alignment. Portland controlled the first half and dictated the game throughout the first 45 minutes. The Fire improved in the second half through personnel and tactical changes.
The Fire next face two big tests at home with Columbus coming in on April 14 and the now-Zlatan Ibrahimovic fueled Los Angeles Galaxy the weekend after.
