Fire beat Tulsa in final 2018 warmup

In a friendly match that showcased most of their first choice eleven on the field for the first time in 2018, the Fire came away with a 2-1 victory over USL affiliate Tulsa Roughnecks at Toyota Park. Stefan Cleveland, starting in place in the injured Richard Sanchez in goal put the Fire behind in the 16th minute with a giveaway in front of his net that found its way to Tulsa's Jhon Pirez for an easy goal.

The Fire controlled most of the possession and had the better chances from there. Bastian Schweinsteiger's shot was stopped in the 69th but Drew Conner gathered the rebound and passed it to Nemanja Nikolic for the easy tap in and an equalizer.

Elliot Collier sealed the win or the Fire in the 78th after intercepting a pass intended for Tulsa 'keeper Fabian Cerda and finishing the play.

The Fire open the season next Saturday at home against Sporting Kansas City.

  • Not very encouraging this spring. Games against 2nd tier should be quite lopsided. Hopefully guys just saving themselves a bit from injuries and being careful, but how will they compete without Harrington and Arkashian this year?
