Fire and Union play to 0-0 draw

The Fire and Philadelphia Union played to a 0-0 draw in what looked like a typical, midweek, early preseason contest. Neither team was able to create many clear chances and there was some disjointed play as both sides put together mixes of starters and trialists on the field.

The Union had the better chances in the first half with a 9th minute shot from David Accam that was stopped by Richard Sanchez and a 27th minute Accam pass to CJ Sapong that was also stopped relatively easily by Sanchez.

The Fire's best chance came in the 60th minute when trialist Albert Ruiz got behind the defense, but his touch in the box in an attempt to get around the Philadelphia 'keeper was too strong.

Fire starting line-up

Sanchez; Ramos, Kappelhof, Dean, Vincent; McCarty, Bronico; Gatt, Johnson, Bakero; Nikolic

Second half

Cleveland; Corrales, Campbell, Lillard, Moreira; Adams, Angeles, Campos, Bakero (Bronico 76'); Collier, Ruiz

Bastian Schweinsteiger, Luis Solignac, and Matt Polster were withheld from the match and did not dress although the Fire maintain that their absences are not injury related.

The team will return to Chicago briefly this weekend before traveling back to Bradenton, Florida for the next phase of preseason.
