Fire add Katai on loan

The Fire announced the addition of Serbian winger Aleksandar Katai on loan from Deportivo Alaves in the Spain's first division. The loan expires on June 30 and includes an option to buy for a permanent move.

The 27-year old attacker will presumably get a chance to play on the right side but he can play on the left and in a central position as well. He will occupy the team's eighth international roster spot although Michael de Leeuw is expected to be placed on the injured list, which would temporarily clear up another slot.

Katai's best season came in 2015/16, where he scored 21 goals and added 9 assists for Serbia's Red Star Belgrade. He has not come close to reproducing those number before or since.

  • Any idea how soon the Fire will have Katai in camp?

  • In reply to Arklow:

    not yet

  • “He has not come close to reproducing those number before or since.” Not exactly a ringing endorsement ... he’s not another Arshakyan is he?

  • In reply to jlatwell:

Just by watching video clips, he's clearly better than Arshakyan. That's not a high bar though.

In all fairness "since" is only 1 full season in which he has gone through 4 coaches with different styles of play... Not really helping on the consistency of play. Im hoping that the style of play from the 2015/2016 season matches the way Pauno is coaching now. That would be more telling then a 2016/2017 season full of coach turnover.

  • Who was the recruiter of askahycan? What league did he play in ? He will go down as one of the worst players that ever doned the uniform. Honestly is Rodriguez going to wait around to mid season and bring in a saver. Do you honestly think that he believes he has the team to win the hearts and mind of chicago? Finally who cares about uniforms? If they had an exciting team I wouldn’t care if they played in their underwear.
