Schweinsteiger officially back for 2018

The Fire have announced, via an oddly-timed Wednesday night press release that Bastian Schweinsteiger has signed a contract for 2018. As reported at The Athletic on January 4, the agreement has been in place for several weeks but needed to be formally finalized.

The release does not provide specific information on the terms of the contract and does not mention the rumored option for 2019.

"I love this city, this sport, and winning, so I look forward to another season with the Fire as we progress to hopefully another level of success," said Schweinsteiger via the release.

General Manager Nelson Rodriguez will address media via conference call on Thursday at 11 am.

  • What are your thoughts on Lindley to Orlando? What was it about the Fire’s offer or the team that lead him to say “no”?

  • This is the only signing the Fire HAD to make. He is just that good! Now, who are the Fire gonna get at CAM? I'm sure NRod has a second and third option in mind. $12 million can buy a whole lotta class at one position.

  • Great news!

  • He probably talked to Calistri.

  • He talked to all the players. It's easy on social media.
Well...I was wrong on Schweinny, but must say...he did his damnest not to come back.
