Fire changes continue - 9 player options declined, 4 renewed

The Fire announced today that nine players have had their options declined for next season. Among those are Adailton, Jon Busch, Razvan Cocis, Greg Cochrane, Jason Johnson, Alec Kann, Jeff Larentowicz, Lovel Palmer, and Chris Ritter. The loan deal for Daneil Cyrus has expired.

In addition to those ten, there are also three players out of contract. Ty Harden, Mike Magee, and Matt Watson do not have deals in place for 2016 in Chicago. Busch, Larentowicz, Magee, and Harden will be eligible for Free Agency , while Palmer and Watson will be made available in the Re-entry Draft.

Options were exercised for Kingsley Bryce, Matt Polster, Harry Shipp, and Patrick Doody.

There are currently nine players under contract for next season to go along with the four previously mentioned with options accepted. That list includes David Accam, Collin Fernandez, Eric Gehrig, Gilberto, Kennedy Igboananike, Sean Johnson, Joevin Jones, Patrick Nyarko, and Michael Stephens.

Players whose options were declined may return to the club if restructured deals can be struck. Larentowicz and Busch would seem to be possibilities to fit into that category. Magee may well have suitors elsewhere.

  • Nothing shocking with this announcement. Justin Mapp and Dilly Duka are available.

  • Hard to disagree with any of those moves.

If you are going to clean house, you might as well clean house.

  • Hard to argue with the release of those players, or restructuring of contracts for some of them. Wonder how low they can go with Busch, though - what was his salary last year? Management has a poor record of incorporating veteran players into the coaching ranks, otherwise I would think of that as an option. Unless NR thinks differently than the previous regimes.

got to wonder who will be captain with the remaining players. Nyarko maybe? is he really a vocal leader though?

  • In reply to Carl Miller:

Nyarko wouldn't be a bad choice. We'll see if he's still around next season.

  • just wondering if N-Rod is working on a date when he is going to explain his plan to the supporters?

    Don't hold your breath...

  • In reply to penapirata:

There's a STH happy hour on Dec10 which will feature Nelson and Vjelko. It's in the city so I'm skipping it.

  • The only reason anyone would be sad to see any of these guys go is if they were dumb enough to buy one of their jerseys. By the way, anyone interested in buying a slightly used Nery Castillo Fire jersey?

  • In reply to nery:

Authentic or replica? Home or away? (You realize this is going to be a hard sell, right? =) )

  • In reply to nery:

So its now the Fire Confidential Flea Market?

  • Hey I would buy it let me know how

  • Guys nelson should be jumping all over beitashour .

  • Marco Pappa is also available.

  • Guys I think that Pappa is dealing with a dui. That kind of event in pro sports makes everyone take a second thought.

  • In reply to Brokerman:

He is. He won't be able to travel to Canada for another two years. I believe he'd face felony charges if he does.

  • In reply to BrianC.:

just dont send him to away games in Canada. simple.
