Fire partner with USLPro's Saint Louis FC

The deal has been generally agreed to since last fall but now it's finally official. The Fire will partner with new USLPro side Saint Louis FC under the terms of MLS' affiliate program. Clubs had the option of fielding their own teams in USLPro this season or partnering with a third division affiliate as MLS looks to replace the Reserve League. Initially the deal was held up pending the resolution of details pertaining to the Collective Bargaining Agreement but once those issues were resolved another hurdle was posed. Some wrangling over the details of territorial rights with a "rival" MLS club delayed the official announcement until now.

The Fire will be able to loan players to Saint Louis FC throughout the season and will be able to recall them at any time. The agreement makes Saint Louis FC an ideal destination for yesterday's SuperDraft selections Matt Polster and Kingsley Bryce. "This is a great opportunity for our players to gain valuable playing time and continue their development in a competitive environment," said Technical Director Brian Bliss via a press release. The two clubs will also collaborate on scouting initiatives.

Saint Louis FC will play their games at Soccer Park in Fenton, Missouri. The facility seats 6,000 spectators.

  • Way for an organization that claims it wants to be the best in MLS to be last in announcing a partnership.

  • In reply to penapirata:

To be fair, the circumstances surrounding the timing was out of their control.

  • Good news, St. L. seems like a pretty ideal match.

Been contemplating this for a few days now and just can't recall...what did Yallop say about Marco Franco's time with the Fire? Was a big swing and miss by Yallop and Co and just wondering what they said about it when they decided to move on from him. Having a first rd. pick for less than a year is a problem.

  • A "rival" near St Louis? Who could that be?

Looks like the chance to sign Shaun Maloney are improving based on the latest reports from across the pond.

  • In reply to Ron Stone:

Maloney was on the bench for Wigan today against Blackburn in the Championship. Maloney was subbed in at the half. Blackburn is leading 1 - 0 at 62 minute. Having trouble getting any details beyond that.

  • In reply to Arklow:

Wouldn't you know... In the 63rd minute Wigan ties the match 1 - 1 on a goal by James McClean, assist by Shaun Maloney!

  • Recording the first Fire Confidential podcast of 2015 this afternoon. Guests will include Frank Yallop, Atul Khosla, Mike Ernst, ISA chair candidates Dan Martin and Don Walsh, and the legendary Jeff Crandall.

You won't want to miss this one.

  • Guys
The first podcast of the chicago confidental was a real stinker. i for one was looking forward to hearing Yallop but could not hear him. Please once a year hearing from a president that thinks everything is going well is probably too much. I don't care about the uniform or the new sponsors I just care about the team. Remind him that his team cannot even get 10 lines in almost all chicago newspapers when he has a first round draft. Pick. That is what he should be working on. Finally when you guys decided to includie someone talking about his political platform with section 8 it was time to turn the podcast off.
Hopefully you guys can return to last years form about discussing the team and players. That is what I for one want to hear.

  • In reply to brokerjohn:

We had a some difficulty with the sound while recording Yallop's segment since the speakers were right above us and the AGM was in progress. You can still hear what he had to say.
The podcast will cover all things Fire, but you can always fast forward through the parts you don't want to hear. I wanted to get some thoughts from the S8 candidates since we were recording at the AGM. If you stopped there you missed Jeff Crandall. Give that a listen.
Thanks for the input as always!

With the way the league is especially the east if they get the Scotsman they could make a run at it. Let's hope that Wigan lets him go and he does not get home sick.

I love the new white kit!! Do you know if it's going to be primary, second or third choice?

  • Second. The kit is going to replace the current away (blue) kit.

  • In reply to Jeff Krause:

Should also note that the primary kits will be new next year.

I'm hearing that people will be happier with that design as well.

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

Loved the old away kit. Hoping that the new one will be a suitable replacement - a new home kit would be acceptable if it were sharp.

  • In reply to Modibo:

This kit is definately a step in the right direction. In my eyes, it would have made a decent third kit.

  • BTW- great podcast. Lots of territory covered, and I really liked the tribute to Jeff Crandall. =)

  • In reply to BrianC.:

    Thanks Brian.

  • Where can you see pictures of the new away jersey?

  • In reply to Krasov:

Photos were not allowed. They plan on unveiling them in a few weeks during a ceremony with the Mayor.

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

I was confused whether that would be Mayor Landek or Mayor Emanuel.

  • In reply to iron81:

    That would be Emanuel.
