With 2014 mercifully over Fire fans can start looking forward to a new season which officially begins in a few weeks when players report for physicals on January 25. The squad will look much different in 2015 with new Designated Players David Accam and Kennedy Igboananike in the fold but Frank Yallop and company still have work to do to fill out the roster between now and the end of January. The MLS Superdraft and the opening of the European transfer window should provide an opportunity for additional reinforcements but until then we'll take one look back at how our predictions fared last season. Three out of our four prognosticators (Jeff Krause, Kevin Egan, ESPN 1000's Fred Huebner, and myself) picked the Portland Timbers to win some hardware and they didn't even make the playoffs. Only one tabbed the correct MLS Cup winner. Kevin Egan picked the Los Angeles Galaxy to win the title, although he did name the Fire as their Cup competition (I think he was only half-joking).
Chicago Fire Confidential will return next season with the podcast and more episodes of Fire Confidential Live sprinkled in. Hopefully the predictions will be more accurate in 2015 but we'll continue to provide the breaking news stories, game recaps, analysis, and coverage that you're looking for when it comes to professional soccer in Chicago. This past season marked the completion of my fifth year writing this blog and I thank you all for reading, commenting, and sharing your passion. 2015 has got to be better. Right?
Happy New Year!
