Fire return to My50 for local tv broadcasts

The Fire will broadcast games locally on My50 once again this season. Dan Kelly and Kevin Egan will return to the broadcast booth and they'll have a sideline reporter this year in Brooke Weisbrod. Another new feature to the telecasts will be what is being described as a "Fire branded broadcast desk that can be used at different locations around Toyota Park." This will be similar to the satellite desk that CSN uses for Blackhawks and Bulls games at the United Center.

The team is looking to add new features to the telecasts and be more visible in local sports media this season.

Franco signs

First round draft choice Marco Franco has officially signed a contract with the club. This gives the Fire a total of 27 signed players in camp. Out of the 30 potential candidates for roster spots that leaves only Parker Walsh, Thomas Piermayr, and Grant Ward as unsigned potential players.

The current roster:

GK (3): Johnson, Reynish, Kann

DEF (10): Segares, Hurtado, Soumare, Palmer, Ianni, Jumper, Franco, Kinney, Walsh, Piermayr

MID (11): Larentowicz, Duka, Nyarko, Alex, Joya, Shipp, Ritter, Pause, Pineda, Atouba, Ward

FWD (6): Magee, Anangono, Amarikwa, Gentile, Rolfe, Barouch

  • Any chance of an English radio broadcast? I would imagine that WGN's new FM station "The Game" would be an interesting fit.

  • In reply to jhholda:

I wouldn't hold out hope for an English game broadcast but there should be some good news radio-wise this season.
The Game would be interesting down the road especially considering that Weisbrod is one of their update anchors. From what I've seen and heard so far their line-up and content is more of the same old stuff.

  • Gotta think at this point Ward is the guy they're going to focus on bringing in. Going to be interested to see if Walsh or Piermayr see any minutes over the next two games down here.

  • Ward is a must sign, Piermayr may have a better chance than Walshdue to more high level experience, haven't seen much of Walsh yet.
Hopefully we'll see more of each in the next several games,
Walsh would probably be a cheaper option though. Piermayr is 24 and Walsh 22, so age won't be a factor.
According to today's Trib, Magee is dealing with some personal issues, allegedly not related to contract.
Remember the last time the Fire had a major player with personal issues, turned out to be a horse opera, hopefully things will turn out differently this time.

  • In reply to lonecoyote:

I think the personal issue is that he would like to have a bigger bank account.

  • At the 0:25 mark of this sneak peek promo video the Fire badge on the new kit is shown.....

Appear to be some holographic "C's" floating around in the background of the badge.

  • Starting XI
    Palmer, Hurtado, Soumare, Segares
    Joya, Alex, Shipp, Duka

  • So confused. The cite says Joya and Shipp. The announcers say otherwise. I guess we'll find out in a moment.

  • Would it be too much to ask that they lower the volume of the field noise so we can actually make out what the announcers are saying?

  • Pretty ho-hum effort overall by the Fire in this game. I count that as 3 mediocre halves in a row. Not very interesting. Hope this isn't the form they are rounding into for the regular season play.

  • As with the last 3 seasons, i don't see where the goals will come from. I expect less production from Magee and slightly more from Rolfe. How long does it take to fill a glaring hole?
While I am happy to see new management, even I could have traded two young MLS proven CB's plus $100,000 for 2 veterans one of whom is often injured and the other, Hurtado, not the player he was before his latest injury.

  • In reply to Celt:

At some of these years they're going to have to bring in a big time striker.

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

If it hasn't happened by now it will probably never happen. Who knows but maybe Leon actually found gold with Anangono but based on his previous DP strikers probably not.

  • In reply to penapirata:

That might be silver at best.
